Cycling
Cycling is a key activity for FIT members. Between September and April, we hold regular group rides in locations across Canberra. In winter, Sunday rides and late morning Friday rides continue, but weekday early morning rides go on hold and we move indoors, with a regular FIT ride on Zwift on Wednesday mornings. Some FIT riders continue to ride outside mid-week through the winter – use the members’ Facebook group to find some riding buddies if you are keen to continue. For our outdoor riding sessions, some experience riding in a bunch is needed. If you are new to FIT, make yourself known to the group when you reach the meeting place. Riders generally gather at a local cafe for breakfast/brunch/coffee following rides.
Tips for FIT cycling sessions
Please bring water, a spare tube, pump and tyre levers to all cycling sessions (if you get a puncture, we’ll help you out). Ensure your bike is in good working condition (not rusty or dusty!) All riders must wear a helmet meeting AS2063/NZ 2063 or equivalent. Helmets must have a manufacturers mark stating its compliance with the Standard.

For our group rides, you need to feel comfortable riding with a bunch on the road, or be willing to learn. Don’t be too worried if the bunch goes a bit faster – we’ll wait for you somewhere up the road. Less experienced riders wanting to increase their skill levels, endurance and speed are welcome. Many rides have shorter options, so select these if you are new to the bunch. For the longer rides, you should be able to ride at least 30 km. We encourage all riders to have appropriate insurance coverage.
