If you have ever thought about doing a triathlon and then the next thought started with ‘but…’

Then the Women’s Triathlon Training Program (WTTP) is right for you. Our mission is to give you the confidence to complete your first triathlon and have a great time doing it in a friendly, inclusive and encouraging environment!

The WTTP is an 8-week training program run by FIT as an introduction into the sport of triathlon. The program offers coached training sessions in each of the three triathlon disciplines (swimming, cycling and running) in central Canberra locations. 

Cycling

Wednesday (6am-7:15am)

Running

Thursday (6:15-7:15am)
Lennox Gardens, Yarralumla

Swimming

Saturday (4pm-5pm), Monday (7:30-8:30pm)
CGGS Swimming Pool, Deakin

*New members are required to hold an ACT Triathlon membership at the Basic level or above to participate in the program. For more information on the membership levels, please visit the AusTriathlon Membership page.

Program Details

The program includes:

  • 8 weeks of 3 coached training sessions per week  (running, swimming and cycling): This includes a variety of workouts to help you improve your fitness and race performance for your first triathlon.
  • A FIT running t-shirt and buff: To show your support for the program and stay comfortable during your training sessions.
  • An information session on shoe selection at The Runners Shop Phillip: Learn how to choose the right shoes for your feet and running goals.
  • Information sessions with licensed physiotherapists and sports psychologist: Get expert advice on injury prevention and mental health.
  • A bike maintenance session with an expert: Learn how to keep your bike in top condition.
  • Lake swim familiarisation sessions: Get comfortable swimming in open water (subject to outcomes of water quality testing and weather conditions).
  • 5% off any sale items and 10% off other items at The Runners Shop Phillip
  • End of program celebrations: A chance to celebrate your hard work and accomplishments.
  • Mentorship, friendship and fun! Make new friends and learn from experienced triathletes.
  • Continued access to FIT programs, events and training sessions: Stay motivated and improve your fitness even after the program ends.

Participants must first join FIT ACT/Triathlon Australia (at the Basic membership level).

8 October 2024

Welcome and Orientation event will be held in the evening at Snapper and Co in Yarralumla (for registered participants) where you can get to know your group, coaches and other FIT members socially ahead of the training.

10 oCTOBER 2024

First training session – running from Lennox Gardens in Yarralumla, behind the Hyatt Hotel

13 oCTOBER 2024

 Cycling skills session – This 3hr session is aimed at building confidence on the bike as a first step towards riding in a competitive environment

November 2024

 Lake Familiarisation – covers swimming in open water (dependent on water quality testing)

1 December 2024 – RACE DAY & PARTY

The program culminates in your participation in the Canberra Tri 4 Fun. Participants will be celebrated at the annual FIT Christmas Party later in the day.  

The program is open to all women aged 18 and over.

To start you’ll need:

Swimmers A bike in good working order Runners
Goggles Helmet Hat/Visor

If you don’t own a bike, a few of our members have bikes available to borrow for the duration of the program. Email our WTTP coordinator for more information.

Scholarships

If you’re keen to join the program but need financial support to get started in the WTTP,  FIT offers scholarships to participate in the WTTP.

Scholarships cover FIT club membership, ACT Triathlon and AusTriathlon basic membership for one year, the WTTP program fee and entry to the program intake’s target event in December, the Canberra Tri 4 Fun.
